Specimen Type
Unfixed or Fresh Tissue
Collection Instructions
Collect specimen in a clean dry plastic container with out formalin, or any other liquid. If the specimen is small it may be wrapped in a damp saline soaked gauze. Label container with 2 patient identifiers (Full Name and DOB and/or MRN is acceptable),specimen source, and collection date. Send the specimen with a completed Pathology Requisition form to The Toledo Hospital main campus, second floor Pathology by STAT courier.
Rejection Criteria
Specimen is received in Pathology fixed or in formalin.
Specimen Storage and Stability
Unfixed or Fresh Specimen kept moist with a saline moistened gauz placed over it. Send to Pathology immediately.

Additional Information
As soon s it is known that a frozen section is needed: Call 419-291-3711 to insure that a Pathologist is notified of the arriving frozen section. Call to request a STAT courier at 419-291-7133. Indicate to the dispatcher that the pick up is for a frozen section.
