Collection Instructions

The specimen will be divided for fungal culture and smear, mycobacteria culture and smear, and bacterial culture and Gram stain only if the specimen is accompanied by a properly completed requisition for each of these procedures and if the specimen is of adequate volume for all tests requested.

Rejection Criteria

Insufficient specimen volume; Swab; Inadequate labeling; Improper container; Specimen on outside of container; Incomplete requisition; If this duplicates Fungal Smear already done with other fungal culture.
