Collection Instructions

Both peak and trough concentrations should be monitored. The following information is generalized, follow any specific directions given by pharmacy/EPIC order set. Conventional dosing: The trough sample (LAB26) is drawn immediately prior to the dose. Peak samples (LAB28) should be drawn 30 minutes after an IM injection or completion of an IV infusion. High-dose extended interval: The peak sample (LAB2356) is drawn 2 hours after the start of IV infusion. Random level (LAB27) is drawn 10 to 12 hours after the start of IV infusion.

Rejection Criteria

Extreme hemolysis, lipemic, or icteric samples.

Refrigerate specimen.
