Collection Instructions
After patient ingests 50 gram glucose load, set timer for 1 hour. Draw patient’s blood when the time has finished.
Rejection Criteria
Blood stored >1 hr. on cells, gross hemolysis.
Specimen Storage and Stability
Spin within 1hr. and refrigerate. Gray tubes are stable 24 hours before spinning.

Patient Preparation
One hour screening of pregnant patients. No fasting is required unless otherwise specified per physician. Patient is given 50 gram glucose load. Patient needs to ingest within 5-10 minutes. Patient will remain at drawsite and may not eat, smoke, chew gum or drink anything other than water over the next hour.
Additional Information
Patient must notify phlebotomist if she becomes ill during the hour. If patient vomits, test must be terminated and physician notified.
