Collect fecal specimens into a clean, airtight container with no preservatives

Rejection Criteria

Specimens that are in transport media or that have been preserved in 10% formalin, Merthiolate Formalin, Sodium Acetate Formalin, Polyvinyl Alcohol, or other fixatives cannot be used. Colon washings. Specimens not meeting storage time and temps listed above. Specimens from breast fed infants.

Refrigerated or room temperature for up to 2 weeks; Specimen that has been frozen (-20 C) within the two week stability timeframe
