NOTE: This test is not Diagnostic. Confirmatory immunoblotting (Western Blot) testing for all samples that test equivocal or positive with this assay will be performed following CDC two-step guidelines. Results are considered positive only if the EIA is confirmed with a positive Lyme Western Blot. A negative result does not exclude the possibility of B burgdorferi infection. Patients in early stages of infection may not produce detectable levels of antibody. Patients with a clinical history and/or symptoms suggestive of Lyme disease or where early Lyme disease is suspected, but with negative test results should be retested in 2 to 4 weeks.

If Lyme Total result is positive or equivocal, the specimen will be sent to our reference lab for Lyme's Western Blot confirmation test.
