Additional Information
Normal quantities of myelin basic protein are found when the MS patient is in remission, or when a very minute amount of nervous tissue is being demyelinated. MBP has also been detected in CSF of patients with CNS infarct, spondylolisthiasis, acute lumbar disc disease, after CNS trauma, pseudotumor cerebri, herpes encephalitis, and leukoencephalopathy associated with leukemia and neuropathy. MBP is cleared within two weeks after onset of symptoms.
