Collection Instructions
Blood must be drawn by Phlebotomy only. Avoid excessive suction on syringe during collection. Use minimum force when expelling blood from syringe.
NOTE: Do not send sample through pneumatic tube system.
Rejection Criteria
Platelet count less than 100 X 10E9/L, clotted specimen, hemolysis, patient receiving therapy with drugs particularly aspirin, antihistamines, anti-inflammatory drugs, psychotropic drugs, some antibiotics and many others.

Keep at room temperature.

The following test has special processing requirements and cannot be collected or dropped at all of our ProMedica Laboratory Draw Sites. Please call Lab Customer Service at 419-291-4134 for which draw site is able to accommodate these special requirements. Must be scheduled in advance with Hematopathology: 419-291-5862. NOTE: Collection of blood for coagulation testing through indwelling catheters that have been flushed with heparin should be avoided, if possible. If specimen is drawn through an indwelling catheter, the line should be flushed with 5 ml saline and the first 5 ml of blood or six times the deadspace volume of the catheter being used should be discarded. Proper collection and handling of specimens is critical.

3.0 mL in a lavender tube; 10.8 mL in (4) 2.7 mL blue tubes containing 3.2% buffered sodium citrate.
Patient Preparation
For 10 days prior to testing, drugs that inhibit platelet aggregation are contraindicated (i.e., acetylsalicylic acid, antihistamines, chlordiazepoxide, clofibrate, cocaine, corticosteroids, diazepam, dipyridamole, furosemide, gentamicin, ibuprofen, indomethacin, marijuana, phenothiazines, phenylbutazone, propranolol, pyrimide, sulfinpyrazone, theophylline, tricyclic antidepressants).
Additional Information
Specimens must be analyzed within 3 hours of collection.
