Fresh kidney tissue with no added fixative

3-4 adequate cores or wedge biopsy

Collection Instructions

Specimens should be transported immediately to the Pathology Department located on the second floor of The Toledo Hospital. For biopsies done at the Toledo Hospital, place biopsy(ies) on gauze moistened with saline and deliver immediately to Gross Room/Pathology Laboratory. Immediately deliver un refrigerated to the Pathology Department located on the second floor of the hospital.

Rejection Criteria

Specimen received in wrong fixative or allowed to become dry.

Turn Around Time

Varies for all procedures but is usually one week.

Additional Information

A pathologist should be consulted in advance before performance of the biopsy, this can be done by calling Laboratory Customer Service at 419-291-4134. Patient history must accompany the specimen and the completed requisition to the Laboratory.
