Specimen Type
Second morning specimen, voided or catheterized urine, intraoperative washings of urinary bladder, urethra, or renal pelvis.
Collection Instructions
Routine collection. Label container with 2 patient identifiers (Full Name and DOB and/or MRN is acceptable),specimen source, and collection date.
Minimum Collection Volume
10 mL
Rejection Criteria
Improper labeling or fixation, 24-hour collection.
Specimen Storage and Stability
If collected after hours in plastic container, add equal parts 50% alcohol and send to the Phlebotomy Dispatch Unit. During hours, send to 2nd floor Anatomic Pathology.

Acceptable Collection Container
Clean plastic container or Cytolyt collection vial.
Patient Preparation
Hydrate patient (give several glasses of water �-1 hour prior to collection). Patient should not have had mineral oil cathartics.
Additional Information
A first morning voided specimen is not suitable. Include clinical history of previous carcinoma, age, and sex. For CMV study, indicate chemotherapy or immunosuppression.
