Collection Instructions
Using the collection device of choice, collect the specimen and rinse in the Cytolyt vial if using the ThinPrep method or gently spread the material on a labeled glass slide if using the Conventional method for pap smears. Spray the slide immediately with fixative. Label container with 2 patient identifiers (Full Name and DOB and/or MRN is acceptable),specimen source, and collection date. Label slides with 2 patient identifiers.
Rejection Criteria
Improper fixation of conventional smear. Improper labeling of specimens.
Specimen Storage and Stability
ThinPrep vials are viable for 6 months. Slides may be stored indefinitely when spray fixed.
Turn Around Time
5 working days after receipt for routine smears.

Patient Preparation
Patient to avoid douches 48-72 hours prior to examination.
Additional Information
Include pertinent clinical history, ie, age, LMP, PMP, surgery, exogenous hormones, history of carcinoma, radiation, chemotherapy or abnormal bleeding, previous abnormal Paps.
